5 Smartphone Apps That Parents Need To Worry About

Owning a smartphone filled with countless apps that can help one from keeping track of their appointments to telling them how many calories they have lost by walking down the road is a norm these days. Yet, there are a few apps that parents should worry about as soon as they see them on their kids’ phones. Here are 5 of the worse apps your child could have on their phones.

Vine

Vine is home to some of the most popular online celebrities like King Bach who makes vine one of the most entertaining and fun social networking platforms out there. But like everything else, there are good ways to use vine and then there are the bad ones. The bad ones being the fact that one can upload any kind of pornographic material on vine without any restrictions. Now Hofmann, Yusupov and Kroll, the founders, incorporated a 17+ age restriction to make an account for vine, however, it is fairly simple for teens to make an account on vine.

Other than just viewing inappropriate videos on Vine, they can also upload their own videos which may or may not be indecent in nature and may even contain child abuse content.

ChatRoulette or Omegle

Same as other social networking apps on this list, ChatRoulette and Omegle allow teens to talk to strangers from all over the world. Now, these two apps are a mile ahead from other apps of its kind, providing video chatting facility, it is one of the most inappropriate apps for minors on the internet these days.

There are several features that the founders and the owners of these apps certainly overlooked. One being the fact that you can record the online video chats and upload them anywhere on the internet meaning that what your child says or does can most certainly come back to bite them in the near future. It also greatly increases the chances of cyber bullying. A large number of people just log into these apps to bully people and turn them against the people they love.

Ask.fm

Ask.fm allows access to a feature that is unlike any other, it enable its users to ask fellow members questions. Now these questions can very well be of any nature, there is no profanity filter of any sorts that prevents people from asking personal or sometimes sexual question from other people.

The questions aren’t reviewed by anyone so that it can be filtered before being published, that is the reason that abuse on ask.fm has been growing rapidly. If you fear that someone is bullying you online on ask.fm, it does come with the option to block people. However, the people you block can still view your profile and know about all your likes and dislikes and you can’t do anything about it.

Blendr

Blendr is an app which allows anyone to communicate with someone anywhere on the planet. However, it also incorporates a feature that uses the GPS Location of a device to find users located nearby. It’s never safe when strangers know your child’s location up to the block you live in. Even if we ignore the GPS Locating feature, it is also a pretty harmful app for the young minds because it allows online predators to prey on their minds and without anyone finding out about it.

Kik

This is another free texting app that enables children to talk to strangers, you don’t need to know anything about the other person, and you could just type in random names and hope for the best.

Other than the fact that you can search random people, there are also apps available on Google Play Store and the Apple Store that can provide usernames for males and females, whichever you may be interested in.

You don’t need to download the app to find out that it is mostly used to sexting, the app description and the comments on the app says it all. There are several hundred comments of people providing their private information and asking girls and boys for sexting and role play which makes it seems like a 100% hookup site.

The Bottom Line
These are just 5 of the hundreds, even thousands of apps in the market that put the mind of children at great risk. The fact that kids can gain access to these apps as soon as they learn how to operate a smartphone is a cause of great worry for parents all over the world. The thrill of having explicit chats with strangers could very well be the only thing that could ruin the rest of their lives and get them addicted to stuff like pornography which very well leads to an act that the children might regret greatly in the future. Hence, using a smartphone monitoring app is the best precaution for parents in the world today.

Six New Essential iPhone Apps Each Traveller Can't Live Without

If you are a traveler, you need to invest in some iPhone applications as they will help you in the long run. Think about it, if you are in the country or overseas, you can make your life easier with a few apps. While true, there are a lot of applications that are a waste of time, and you should try to find ones that offer you what you need. With this in mind, here are six new essential iPhone apps each traveler can't live without.

Weather Line: If you are like most people, you like to know what the weather will be like any given day. This is especially important if you want to get out of your hotel room and go out on your own. Since most travelers will walk a lot, it’s important to download the Weather Line app. Then, when you wake up in the morning, you can see the weather forecast for the day. Furthermore, if you are wise, you will use this app to get the forecast for later in the week and future cities you plan to visit. Either way, with the Weather Line app, you are not going to leave the hotel or hostel unprepared.

XE Currency App: When you travel abroad, you will want to know the currency exchange rate. By knowing the true value of your money and the local currency, you can’t get ripped off by people who take advantage of unknowing tourists. Since the exchange rate changes daily, and sometimes widely, this is a wise application to have on your phone. Yes, you can't trust the local money changers as many of them are out to make money off foolish tourists. On the other hand, if you check the local paper, you will get yesterday’s rate, and you won't know the true value of your money. So, before you head overseas, make sure to download the XE Currency App.

Yelp: While on the road, most people have no idea what lies ahead as far as restaurants and bars. Not only that, if you want to get a massage or check out a movie, you will have to rely on luck and lots of asking questions in the streets. To save time and find the best places to check out, make sure to install the Yelp application on your phone. Then, without a doubt, you can find the best places to go, and you will have an easier time enjoying the local experience.

Skype: If you want to make long-distance phone calls from out of your home country, you are going to waste a lot of money. Not only that, you will get a horrible connection many of the times. On the other hand, with Skype, you can chat with your buddies in real-time, all for free. Furthermore, you can message your friends or family member’s links of your photos and information. Then, you will enjoy your trip more as you can show off and keep in constant contact with the ones you love.

Dropbox: When you are out-of-town and on the road, you will want access to your stuff. Think about it, what if you want to access your passport photo or important files? With Dropbox, you can log in and see your stuff. This makes it easier should you run into any problems. In fact, if you work on the road, you should download Dropbox now and synch it to your iPhone. That way, when you are gone, you are not truly away from your computer and files.

WhatsApp: While not wildly popular in some countries, WhatsApp is a great texting app. Whether you are renting a place off Airbnb or trying to meet a local for a coffee, you will have an easier time with WhatsApp as you won’t pay any fees to text someone in another country, and the person on the other end will not pay a fee. All you must do is download the program and synch it with your current number. Then, when you want to text someone, add him or her to your contacts. Then, you can send images, video, audio or texts to your friends and family all over the world. Simply put, if you are going to travel internationally, you need to download and install WhatsApp.

With these six iPhone applications, you can save a lot of time and money while you are on vacation. In the end, it’s wise to consider these apps and a few more as you will go a long way in ensuring that you have a fun, safe and enjoyable adventure wherever you may go. Remember, while these are great apps and you can rely on them to make your tri more enjoyable, you need to think of your own unique wants and needs while on the road.

A.I.type: a Great Android App You Don’t Use

A.I.type: a Great Android App You Don’t Use

It would be nice if your keyboard were smart enough to know what you want to enter, but not so darn presumptuous that it auto-corrects your words all the time without even providing any notice. A.I.type features a context-based next-word prediction engine that warns you before (and after) it corrects your text.

With different skins, such as iPhone 4s and Windows 7 layouts, you can emulate other devices and operating systems. A.I.type also offers you navigation and editing buttons, like Back and Undo, so your fingers will never have to leave the keyboard again. It also learns from your typing habits, refining its prediction engine as you type. Here’s one of the best Android apps on the market.

There are so many keyboards available today that it really is necessary to try them all to find out which one works best for you. A.I.type is definitely one of the best. There are many things to like about this keyboard. It looks great, it reacts, sounds and allows you to type quickly. And the attention to detail throughout the app is excellent.

You can reduce the bottom row options in order to make the space bar bigger, and two thumb typing in landscape mode is easy. It has a copy, cut and paste edit screen, and at the touch of a button it even reads the words you've typed.

Text prediction works very good, and many people on Google Play say that this has the best text prediction they've ever experienced. Needless to say, A.I.type is highly recommended, and available for download for Android via Google Play.

AllCast: An Android App You’ve Never Used

Just as soon as you get your brand-new Android smartphone, there are a few apps you are probably going to download immediately, Facebook, Twitter, Spotify, maybe Kindle, along with your favorite games. But with more than a million apps in the Google Play store, it’s pretty much assured that there are going to be a lot of options that you never even thought of, either because you’re not sure what they do or you simply don’t even know they exist. Here, for example, is AllCast. It’s one of those apps that you probably have never heard of but belongs on this list of top picks because it’s an exceptional app with loads of features you might want to try:

AllCast is the hands-down best local media player for Android and Chromecast. The program lets you stream your device's photos, music or videos to almost anything else. Cast to your Roku, Chromecast, Apple TV, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Amazon Fire TV or Smart TVs directly from your Android. You can control playback and volume options while never without getting up from your couch. There are other local media apps around, but the difference is that AllCast has a built-in bitrate engine that buffers a video before it plays, similar to YouTube or other video services.

AllCast: An Android App You’ve Never Used

Buffering eliminates (or at least minimizes) lag, and lag is why many people get frustrated with a lot of other players. When you begin playing a video and constantly have to wait for the video to move forward, it can drive you mad.

AllCast allows you to adjust the bitrate from “original quality” all the way to 2 million bits per second. Depending on your bitrate selection, you may have to wait a little while before the video begins playing. The short wait though is worth it when you don’t have to watch a video with seemingly hundreds of hesitations.

The other advantage of AllCast is that you can tune the bit rate while the video plays back. If you notice some lag in the playback’s performance, just crank the bitrate up or down a little. All the tuner settings are conveniently located under the Settings icon on the main screen.

Here’s a list of some top picks that you probably don’t about that you might want to try:

Wikitude

You can share your daily walking log on social media, or have it emailed to yourself for safekeeping. Set goals based on the number of steps you take, distance walked, or the amount of weight that you want to lose.

PasswordBox

Security breaches are more common than even burglaries and muggings nowadays. Guard yourself against would-be identity thieves with PasswordBox, which lets you manage the credentials of services like Facebook, Netflix and your bank account. The app generates secure passwords for new profiles that you create while you browse the web, and guards your information with AES-256 bit encryption. Flights Apps That Bring You The Best Deals Out There

Flights Apps That Bring You The Best Deals Out There
Cheap flight deals are every traveller's’ dream come true. The question then is, how to make a flight booking by making use of the best deals in the market with the least amount of effort? Flight apps are built to solve this purpose exactly. Two premier flight apps in the market are built to help travellers worldwide find flight options that suit their budget and convenience.

ixigo hotels flight restaurant

This app allows you to explore options of flights, hotels, trains, places to visit and eat in the vicinity of the destination you choose in the search bar. The interesting part about the flight app is that it has all these complex structures built into a single, simple user interface. By this logic, a user can look at one option at one time. So you can first make your flight booking in the website of your choice, track the status of your flight and thereafter, look at several hotel options in the city. You are redirected to all these options one after the other in the search platform.

For hotels, it allows you to look at photos of the property, read their reviews from other websites, compare and contrast the cost analysis and make a booking instantly. Similarly, you can also look at several options for trains and buses and make a booking accordingly. There is a status tracker associated to train and bus bookings as well. The search bar also helps you locate popular places and restaurants close by and gives you information and pictures of the activities ongoing in the place.

The flights app is accessible to all iOS, Android and Windows users. It covers the whole of the Indian subcontinent, Thailand, Malaysia, South Asia, Middle East countries and island groups--Maldives, Bora Bora, Seychelles and Mauritius.

Skyscanner

The flights app helps you find the cheapest airline deal, by comparing flight costs with over a 1,000 airlines. It filters out the best 100 entries and shows it to you at a glance one page after the other. It also helps you find the cheapest hotels around the place and taxi rental options closeby. It redirects you to the website of the airline or concerned travel agent, when you choose to proceed with a particular deal for your chosen date.

Simply fill in your date and port of departure and the flights app furnishes you with the requisite information for buying cheap flight tickets online on a daily basis. It searches, collates, receives and gives you daily news feed on the same. Some of the best deals are made when one makes a booking both for travelling to and fro.

You are in a better position to gain from this flights app if your travel dates are flexible. When you feed the requisite information in the app months in advance, it prompts you on the cheapest dates of the month to fly on. The flights app also displays cheapest flights to the most popular countries of the world.

The flights app is accessible to iOS, Android, Windows and Blackberry users. It covers UK, USA, all of Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

This could be the beginning of many adventurous trips or some of the best value-for-money business trips. So make sure you strike the best deal by making use of the best flights app. Bon Voyage!

Replace Your Wedding Photographer With These Apps

Replace Your Wedding Photographer With These Apps

Imagine how great it would be if you could get out of spending one to four thousand dollars on a wedding photographer and still get the most wonderful pictures of your special day. This is all possible through a wedding photo app. If that is not enough to get you excited, then how about the fact that you can get such an app for just around $100? You will still have to pay to have the photos printed and framed, but you cut your wedding photography costs down an impressive amount. Here are some of the best photo apps that 2014 has to offer.

1. Wedsta

Remember when cameras were put out for the wedding guests to pick up and take pictures of the bride and groom, themselves and other people at the wedding? Well, this app really simplifies the whole process and is compatible with any iPhone or Android. You get the app and setup your account, then make sure that each of your guests has the app on their phone and is registered in your account. From here, a digital copy of any pictures your guests take while using the app will appear in your account, and you can access these pictures to share, print, edit, etc. for a year.

2. Capsule

This is a new one that's still free. Just like the other photo apps, Capsule allows anyone who you grant access to upload photos to your album. In addition, your guests can also choose the photos they want as keepsakes and print them on their own or order them.

Those whom the bride and groom grant access to their account can also like and comment on any photos in the album, whether they were present at the wedding or not. Popular social media accounts are also integrated so that the bride and groom can share their pics easily and quickly. If you have pictures on Instagram that you would like to include in your Capsule album, then you can do that as well through the use of the famous hashtag. There is no expiration date for this app, so you and others you invite can begin adding photos as early as you like.

3. Wedding Snap

This is another photo app that is compatible with both iPhones and Androids. Pricing starts at $99. With this app, your wedding moments are captured through the eyes of your family and dear friends rather than some photographer. Anyone you share this app with can take both pictures and videos of your wedding. There is no expiration date on your account so you can go to your Wedding Snap gallery and enjoy the special memories captured here forever. Since you can purchase this app as early as you want, you can capture those special moments from prewedding days as well.

4. Wed Pics

This wedding photo app seems to have some neat features and it's free. The bride and groom as well as an unlimited amount of guests can upload videos as well as photos. Uploads can then be organized into different albums. Those who were unable to attend the wedding can also be granted access to view the photos. You can do high quality downloads of any of the photos for printing and conventional framing or digital framing. There is no expiration on storage time, so you can download the app and make an account as soon as you want and include photos from events such as the proposal, the bachelor and bachelorette parties, etc.

PNR Status App

PNR Status App
If most train apps come with the feature to track your PNR Status, why do you need a PNR Status app? There are countless reasons and now is the time to start discovering the various uses of a PNR status app! ixigo’s smart and intuitive PNR app identifies and fixes a problem you never understood you were facing. By scanning your inbox for messages from both IRCTC and other merchant websites, ixigo detects your PNRs for trains as well as flights. You no longer have to open your ticket in one window and then copy and paste the PNR into another tab, you can find the status for all your trips at the tap of one button! That’s why, ixigo PNR app is called automagical!

The trips identified by the ixigo PNR app you can easily manage your trips in 2 sections out of which one is the Upcoming Trips and the other is Previous Trips. The status for upcoming trips is checked at regular intervals by the app automatically, and in case you have tickets that are Wait Listed, the app keeps checking their status in the backend, and send you a notification whenever the status changes! Now that’s what we call a smart PNR status app! The best part that the app is well optimised for even slower internet connections for when you’re on the go, which means you never have to wait too long for updates!

The ixigo PNR app is not behind when it comes to managing your flight details on your smartphone. In case your flight status changes, it’s delayed or cancelled, you receive notifications. Similarly, you also get notifications for when your flight web check in opens, and you can do a web check in and select a seat of your choice, through the app! How many PNR status apps offer this feature?

What we loved about the ixigo PNR app was also that the app provides one tap access to your train booking sms - which means you don’t have to scan your entire sms inbox anymore to show the TT your ticket! Now, isn’t that thoughtful? Apart from reviewing and managing all your trip details on one screen, the PNR app also provides you Train Delay alerts, just like the ones for flight! When all these features come on an app that takes less than 2 MB of space on your smartphone, is free of cost and has no annoying advertisements, do you really need to think twice about downloading it?

After reading this exhaustive list of features it’s not unlikely to be wondering if the app is too complicated to use. The truth is, there are hardly any apps that provide such a flowy design that is easy to use like the ixigo PNR status app. That’s why we call it intuitive, because it perceives your need and provides you a solution, before you can even say it. What makes this PNR status app smart is its ease of use, which is impossible to find in most train or travel apps.

This is one ultra futuristic PNR status app you need on your phone, every time you travel! Get it at the Google Play Store now!

Future of Mobile Applications

Future of Mobile Applications
At the end of the year 2013, Google and Apple still remain the two prominent and strongest players in the mobile application development industry. The recent report of WSJ states that both of these mobile giants have more than 700,000 applications in their bucket and the rate is growing very fast. The report also explains that both these players have sued the technological sophistication very deliberately, as applications have gone beyond the circle of mobile only. There are now devices of Tablet PC, mobiles, gaming devices and recent television sets which these companies are eyeing on. But if we give a closer look then we cans see that the turnover rate of application from users’ download and usage point of view is very little in comparison to rate of production. The rate of iPhone apps that get some market exposure and prominence is 6% while that of Google is 9%. Therefore, if 1000 apps are produced every single month, then only 60- 90 apps are able to generate revenue while the other dies without being noticed.

One consideration for the iPhone application makers today is to analyze the market scope and also the market traffic. What is there are a number of cars available for cheap rates, but no roads to drive on? It is apparent that the sales of cars will be affected directly with the road traffic and availability, and the same applies for mobile applications. Though, the market is booming currently, the overall performance in terms of the profitability rate has decreased for both Apple and Google. It is apparent that if one thousand apps are produced and only 20 get market acceptance, the profitability rate will shrink.

For this reason, the application makers now have to put more attention to both the functioning and need of an application, along with its marketing strategies. With so many apps available in the market, consumers have a big choice pool available, and if the changed behavior of speediness, the decision is often made in the first few minutes. For this reason, it is quite apparent that if the application is not able to click in the first few minutes and is not presentable, there are high chances that it will end up being confined to the app stores only.

Jackson Richie, the CEO of a Muscovy, illustrates that there are nearly thousand, if not millions mobile applications for music and video. All applications are more or less same, as application makers cannot leave the basic parameters and requirements of a music or song application. So, what required here is extensive marketing and advertising of the application. If you are a little late in launching the app, you might be outrunned by the app that launched just before yours and offer nearly the same features. On the other hand, if you launch an application and your competitor launches a better app with more features, it will again menace the profitability and sustenance of the pap in the market. Thus, the question today is not what to produce, but how to market it!

Reinventing Reading through eBook Apps

E-book readers and tablets have pushed book publishing into revolutionary directions. New developments include software that allows users to create end read interactive books. Do not confuse digital interactive books with eBooks. Both formats are quite different.

There is a distinction between eBooks and apps, which is not always clear to both consumers and publishers. Applications are often based on Android software or an iOS mobile operating system that was developed by Apple Inc, whereas eBooks are printed documents packaged in a specific format, like Mobipocket or the EPUB format, which is short for electronic publication. Enhanced eBooks (ePUB3) books are also competing for the attention of avid readers. What makes them different?

  • eBooks first appeared on devices like the Kindle. They have few interaction capabilities. You can search for content, flip the pages, change the font size to improve readability, and highlight words to get a definition from the dictionary, but that is about it.
  • Enhanced eBooks allow easy integration of audio, video, and interactivity. This format may eventually be used for textbooks and other educational material. It is quite possible that, in the future, textbooks can read themselves. It is not quite clear if this would be beneficial to children, especially those still learning to read. On the other hand, it would be great to make notes on a book without destroying it, or being able to test your knowledge before moving on to the next chapter.

Creating a Digital Book

iBooks Author is an authoring application from Apple for Mac devices. The software allows the user to create a wide range of digital books, from historical novels and textbooks, to picture books and cookbooks. The computer software company Adobe joined the bandwagon by launching Digital Publishing Suite via InDesign for devices, such as the Android, iPad, and Blackberry. Other independent publishing platforms include Moglue and Mag+.

Interactive Electronic Books

Users can interact with the storyline in sight, sound, and touch by utilizing tablet PCs, like Google Nexus, Toshiba Excite, or Kindle Fire. It is quite a step up from common eBooks, which do not allow the reader to participate. The list of interactive eBooks includes travel guides with device GPS capabilities, pop-up book apps for children, cookbooks with video recipes and built-in cooking timers, or ordinary eBooks that were enhanced with interactivity features.

Interactivity Levels

Interactivity should enhance reading experiences vastly. If it does not, the book should be removed from the interactive eBook category. Why is it important to be thorough? In the race to bring out the most publications and get more buyers, publishers throw books on the market with very few interactivity capabilities. Touching a button on a screen to make an animation move does not really add a lot of value of the story. Are you looking for a children’s book with a tremendous amount of interaction? Check out the example below.

Cozmo's Day Off
“Cozmo's Day Off” is an amazing children’s interactive storybook. It was on the top-seller’s list for a long time, because of its many interactive features. This eBook contains over 100 original audio and animated interactions. There are so many of them that you have to wonder if it should be defined as a “book” or a “game.” Parents should review their options before deciding what a storybook’s purpose should be. The amount of required interaction will depend upon the child.

Creating Amazing Experiences

Creating Amazing Experiences
The sky is the limit, and interactivity can take book-reading experiences to a whole new level, one that cannot be reached through traditional publications. Interactive eBooks have evolved quite a bit since they were first introduced. They are no longer about touch interface controls. By adding different elements, parents and teachers can now encourage children to engage in the experience rather than to be a spectator.

While a lot of interactive eBooks are designed for children, adults can enjoy this development in reading practices just as much. “Martha Stewart Makes Cookies” iPad app is a great example. Aside from supplying more than 90 popular recipes, this book also lets you search recipes based on ingredients or by flavour. The book includes baking tips, instructional videos, kitchen timers, simple packaging ideas, shopping lists, sharing options, and much more.

Bakers can search to their heart’s content by employing the easy-to-use cookie wheel. It can be accessed by tapping on the navigation ribbon on the left side. This would not have been possible in a printed version of this book.

The Benefits of Interactive Learning

The mind of a child is like a dry sponge. It craves knowledge. Traditional classrooms are limited. They only deliver the educational material that is required by the school. Parents have the opportunity to save their kids from boredom by reading interactive eBooks together. The benefits are incredible, and include the following:

  • Students can work at their own pace, and review the content whenever it is convenient. They can go back to review information that was not quite clear. Advanced children can move on to the next book, instead of having to wait because some classmates need more time to understand the material. The smart ones will not be slowed down by the questions of other students.
  • Teachers can add material to interactive learning environments.
  • Educational institutions can lower their operational costs, as electronic books can be taken home. Kids can study where it is most convenient. This is a great solution for student living in remote areas or locations often plagued by extreme weather conditions.
  • Using a mouse and interacting with the characters helps children to become familiar with everyday technology.
Interactive eBooks are great educational tools. However, they were not created with the purpose of eliminating traditional, printed library books. Each type of reading material has a purpose. Combine them to get the best possible outcome.
